Our Roundabout course is a unique and hugely popular one-year musical introduction: six instruments are explored through group teaching and shared performance, designed for those who would like to try out what they would like to learn in the future. As The Conservatoire's longest-running programme for little musicians, who knows which famous faces of the future will have passed through our doors!
Children learn in small groups, spending half a term on each of the following: violin, cello, guitar, piano, flute and percussion. Classes include a mixture of songs, musical games, instrumental technique and creative projects. Over the course of the year the children develop their skills in rhythm, pitch, notation, performance and composition, as well as learning the basic technique for playing each instrument. Each half term includes a ‘Show & Share’ class, where all the children come together to perform on their instruments, and an opportunity for friends and family to visit their lesson and hear them play. At the end of the year there is a ‘Celebration’ Concert.
