English Literature  

The Conservatoire’s Language, Literature and Culture programme, under the guidance of its highly experienced tutors, encourages students to take up new interests, to polish existing skills and to enjoy discussion and interaction with others in an informal environment. Over the last two years we have also developed highly successful one-off workshops in our Taste of Italy series, which offer snapshots of the culture, food, wine and language of a number of different regions.

Last term we considered three powerful tragedies. Two leaders assassinated and a captain of industry driven by guilt to take his own life, with terrible conflict, personal and political, should ensure lively discussion.

About the tutors
Susan West
Bed(Hons) MA PGCE		Trained as a teacher at the College of S. Mark and S. John in Plymouth and went on to take a B.Ed.(Hons) degree from the University of Exeter, followed by an M.A. in English Literature from Queen Mary College, London.Having always been interested in adult education, Susan has taught literature courses for the extra-mural department of Goldsmiths College and Greenwich Community College, as well as teaching a literature class at the Conservatoire for the last ten years.
