Coral Reef Capers (3-5 yrs)

The coral reefs are endangered. Where will Nemo and the other clown fish live if the coral reef perishes? We will make our own watery environments and create puppets of some of the creatures living within using inks, wire stems, plaster and paint.

Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? (Art, 3-5 yrs)

Monday 17th February, 1.30pm - 3.30pm (£20)

Polar Bears live in the Arctic. We will make our own puppets of polar bears, seals, and killer whales as well as exploring cold colours to make snowy cold glacial climates in which they can thrive, using melting ice and different colours and textures. We will also make a backpack to take with us as we adventure across the snowy landscape.

Printing With What? (Art, 5-11 yrs)

Tuesday 18th February, 9.30am - 4pm (£50)

We will play around with constructing printing tools using everyday objects such as wood, string and wire to create some wacky and wonderful marks on fabric! We will learn how to make repeat patterns, experiment with working on a large scale and come up with designs for clothing and accessories to create from the printed fabric we make.

From The Tiny Seed (Art, 3-5 yrs)

Tuesday 18th February, 10am - 12pm (£20)

Huge trees living in the rainforest grow from tiny seeds. Trees help us to live and provide a home for lots of animals and insects. Taking inspiration from Eric Carle’s book, looking at his illustration techniques, let’s make our own paintings. We can make our own miniature garden and include some of the animals and exotic flowers within.

Stamp, Scavenge, Crush (Art, 3-5 yrs)

Tuesday 18th February, 1.30pm - 3.30pm (£20)

This is the name of one new the newly refurbished galleries in MOMA, exhibiting work in which artists have used discarded or reused materials, and featuring the work of Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenburg and Romare Bearden. We will look at the works of these artists and make our own art, using recycled and found objects. Bring in any junk modelling materials you can collect from home!

Design Your Own Sustainable Settlement (Art, 5-11 yrs)

Wednesday 19th February, 9.15am - 3.45pm (£50)

We will create large illustrated and collaged aerial maps to plan sustainable island environments incorporating natural and man-made elements. We will acknowledge climate change by reusing materials, exploring self-sufficiency and considering environmentally friendly travel. Inspired by the work of Olafur Eliasson and worldwide sustainability goals, make shoe box models of your settlement using only recycled and natural materials. Use old plastic bottles to design, decorate and create flower pots in which to plant a tree, and plan where you will plant this. Design and paint a t-shirt to reflect and promote sustainability, inspired by your illustrations and models.

Hand Building (Art, 8-14 yrs)

Thursday 20th February 9.15am - 3.45pm (£50)

Explore the potential of clay in this 1-day workshop where various hand building techniques will be taught. Whether you want to make a functional piece to use around the house, or a sculpture to display, this course offers the chance to plan and develop your own piece. At the end of the day, students can choose 2 pieces that they would like to be fired and glazed to be transformed into ceramic. There is an additional £5 charge to cover the cost of materials and kiln firing. Once the pieces have been fired, you will be notified, and they will be available to collect from The Conservatoire.

Harnessing the power of the three elements is vital for a sustainable future. We will explore the properties of each element through various techniques and materials such as dying, printing, painting and sculpture. We will also identify the sculptural designs in such things as wind turbines to inspire our art making.
