Adventures At The Seaside (Art, 5-11 yrs)

Wednesday 24th July, 9.15am - 3.45pm (£50)

Create original art based on a seaside themed still life of inspirational objects; shells, wooden boats, buckets and spades, summer fabrics and beach memorabilia. Use drawing and watercolour to produce imaginative paintings and textile designs. Then, decorate a beach bag using textile pens, paints and recycled textiles. Bring along an old piece of summer clothing with you and upcycle it into something brand new! Finally, why not decorate souvenir boxes based on a seaside theme using collage, paint and shells?

Come and join the Conservatoire's Circus where activities include: balancing, juggling, spinning plates, Chinese ribbons, poi, diablos, devil sticks, pedal go’s, fun wheels and stilts. During the circus skills workshops students are constantly reminded that dropping, falling and generally getting into a muddle (amidst much laughter) is all part of the journey to acquiring the most impressive circus skills. Within minutes the echoes of 'Look, look at me' and 'Did you see what I just did?' Fill the room!

During this one-day course, you will create your own collage pictures based on an inspirational travel experience; drawing, painting and using collage to create a vision of your dream destination. This will become the front cover of your sketchbook. After looking at the work of Picasso and Matisse, you will design a boat to help you on your journey and then build this using upcycled items.

Have you ever wanted to be a comic book hero? Today is the day – come and discover your own unique Super Power! You will create our own comics with ourselves as the main character and you get to save the day. Create a story using class comic techniques. Learn from comic book masters how to create a story board, layout your comic, use expressive drawing and comic book style to tell your story. Don’t forget to bring your favourite comics along for inspiration. This class is a must for comic book fans!

Junior Portfolio Workshop

Endless Summer Days (Art, 5-11 yrs)

Friday 2nd August, 9.15am - 3.45pm (£50)

You will create collaged pictures based on inspirational collections of multi-coloured summertime objects and draw, paint and use collage to create an imagined or real vision of your dream summer’s day. This will then be the front cover of your sketchbooks for the day. You will use your memories of summer days and past or imagined adventures and create a short visual story based on collage, writing and drawn images. Using the work of Picasso and Matisse as inspiration, you’ll produce multi coloured acrylic paintings in canvas in the style of one of these artists featuring still life, their ideas, memories and dream days. These ideas will form the basis of a beautiful fabric wall-hanging using recycled fabric and items, buttons, sequins and textile paints.

Script To Screen

Script To Screen Workshop (Drama, 7-11 yrs)

Monday 12th August, 9.30am - 3.30pm (£50)

First, we will watch some short films to start thinking about what makes a great story. We will then imagine our own stories using our surroundings as inspiration. Once we have chosen our parts and rehearsed, we will split into smaller groups to film (don't worry, when you are not filming you will be designing the film poster!). Each person will receive a copy of the film created once it has been edited a few days after the workshop.

Travelling Through Time (Drama, 6-11 yrs)

Become a time traveller and discover a different decade each day! Focusing on the 40's, 60's and 80's, our time travellers will be immersed in each era; using drama, art and music to help us go on a whistle stop tour of the decade. Whether it is creating and performing in your very own 80's styled commercial or devising a touching piece to help commemorate the fallen soldiers of World War II, you will be guaranteed a fun filled day of creativity and exploring. Each day will be different and we will start from scratch with a new decade so you can attend just the one or two workshops or can stay with us for the full three days.

If you are currently learning the flute then this is the course for you! Players will be split into groups of Grades 1–3 and Grade 4 & 5 and will attend workshops to help improve their skills and techniques as well as having the opportunity to play within an ensemble. There will be a short performance to parents on the last day of the course.

Use inspirational, multi-coloured eclectic summer holiday themed still life to create sketches and watercolours. Looking at the work of Chagall and Picasso, you will create original pieces of brightly coloured collaged art work and complementary painted and decorated frames inspired by the objects. Following on from this, design an imaginative brightly coloured T-shirt featuring elements from your drawings and collages to create original textile designs on your very own T-shirts using fabric crayons, pens and up- cycled fabrics. You’ll also create your very own packaging and branding for your original T-shirt!

Spend a fun week with a team of enthusiastic professional musicians, developing your playing ability and confidence, having fun and making friends!
