An Evening with... Tom Berkeley and Ross White
English/Irish filmmaking duo Tom Berkeley & Ross White began writing together in 2018. Their debut film Roy, starring BAFTA winner David Bradley and Academy Award winner Rachel Shenton, was filmed during the Autumn of 2020, and will embark on an international film festival circuit across 2021/22. Roy is a co-production between Slick Films, who won the Oscar for their short film The Silent Child in 2018, and Floodlight Pictures - Tom and Ross’ independent production company founded last year.
Graduates of the Royal Court Writers’ & Guildford School of Acting, Tom and Ross' early work in theatre provided the foundations for their writing dynamic. Their respective debut plays were shortlisted for the Bruntwood Prize, Papatango Prize, and the Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing. Their early work has been performed at Theatre Royal Stratford East, Lyric Hammersmith, The Abbey, The Arcola and the VAULT Festival.
The duo recently won the inaugural First Flights Film Award for their short film script, An Irish Goodbye, which is subsequently heading into production in 2021, and is backed by Goldfinch Entertainment and Wee Buns Films with development support from Northern Ireland Screen. An Irish Goodbye will feature Game of Thrones' Michelle Fairley alongside Marcella actor James Martin, and is scheduled to begin principal photography this Spring, with Tom and Ross set to direct the film.
Alongside their filmmaking, the pair are continuing to develop new projects and spec TV and Feature film scripts. Their spec feature, Songbird was a finalist at the Oscar-qualifying Galway Film Fleadh’s Pitching Award.
They will share new material, giving it a test run, and invite the participants to give feedback as well as a Q and A. Check them out, in the meantime on their website:
