Freelance Early Years & Children’s Art Assistant

Purpose of Post: We are looking for an art assistant to support our tutors and children.

Background: The Conservatoire in Blackheath was established in 1881, originally as the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music, and is the focus of arts education and events in South East London, providing exceptional lifelong learning.  It is a charity offering group classes and individual tuition in music, art and drama, catering for all ages, welcoming over 2000 learners a week.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting our tutors in the teaching of Early Years and children’s group art programmes
  • Supporting the children in classes
  • Helping with other duties as required by the tutor, such as setting up and clearing away materials

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

  • Current DBS certificate issued within the last 3 years or willing to undertake one
  • Availability throughout term time (please see our website for term dates)

Desirable criteria: 

  • Training in art and/or education or currently training in art and/or education 
  • Experience of working with children

Additional information

  • Term: Freelance 
  • Pay rate: £10 per hour
  • Hours: Mondays 3.45-7pm; Wednesdays 9.15-7pm; Fridays 09.45-7.30pm; Sundays 9.30-4pm throughout term time (please see our website for term dates) with a week off at half-term
  • We will consider recruiting more than one person to this role depending on availability
