1-Day Guitar Workshop (6-10 yrs)

Come and join us for a one day course where you will learn all about the guitar playing some songs. Explore the instrument and how to express yourself under the guidance of our enthusiastic tutors. We welcome young guitarists of all levels, including complete beginners. Guitars can be hired for the session free of charge.

Come try out the ukulele and get started on the right note! Join us on this fun-filled introduction to the instrument. Play your first song and have fun making music. SoundTrekkers 1

SoundTrekkers (7-12 yrs)

Monday 2nd - Wednesday 4th August, 9.30am - 3.30pm (3-day course, £120)

Open to anyone with an interest in music and exploring music around the world. Within this course, you will explore different elements of music by listening, singing, composing and creating some art inspired by music. Each day will start with a live performance from a professional cellist who will then take the group on a journey to 'visit' a different country to explore cultures and art forms.

Sound Effect 1

Sound Effect Art (5-11 yrs)

Friday 6th August, 9.30am - 3.30pm (£50)

Join our sound effect specialist to create your own sound effects and learn all about sound effect art! You can choose your favourite scenes from a selection of videos and then recreate the sound effects for those scenes. You will get the chance to record and sound engineer. Bring any instruments you play, and we may incorporate them. By the end of the course, your fantastic sound effects will be uploaded for you to keep!

Flute

Intro To Flute (6-9 yrs)

Tuesday 10th August, 10.00 - 11.00 OR 11.30 - 12.30 (£11)

In this one-day introduction to Flute you will learn all about the instrument and our experienced tutor will guide you through aspects of rhythm, note reading and using the head joint of the flute to ground you in the basics of the instrument.  Within the class you will learn 3 notes and a piece of music. This class gives you the opportunity to try the out the flute to see if you would like to take your learning with the instrument further and offers a basis from which you would be able to progress on to our term time Play! Flute programme.
If you have your own instrument, feel free to bring it along but, if not, you can use one of ours for the class.

Together we will experiment with different instruments and styles all from one computer, creating new contemporary digital music using Afrobeats, Dancehall, Trap and Hip Hop as inspiration. We will work with loops and samples, and record our own voices to add effects including autotune and pitch shift, to collectively construct an original track. Bring any instruments you play, and we may incorporate them. Our goal is to complete one finished track and upload it to YouTube to amaze your friends and family. No prior musical knowledge needed, just come and find out how creative you can be!

Roundabout

Play! Summer School for Young Musicians (6-10 yrs)

Monday 23rd - Friday 27th August, 9.30am - 3.30pm (5-day course, £210)

Spend a fun week with a team of enthusiastic professional musicians, developing your playing ability and confidence, having fun and making friends! Activities include musical games, rhythm exercises, supervised practice and playing as an orchestra and in chamber groups. There will be a mini concert performance on the final day. Whether you are a graduate or current student of our popular Play! programme or are interested in joining, this summer school is perfect for you!
