How to access Zoom classes on your smartphone or tablet (video)

Zoom on your phone or tablet

Step 1 - Download Zoom on your phone or tablet. This should be rather easy to find, in the 'App Store' (Iphone) 'Google Play Store' (Android phones) or wherever you get your apps.

Step 2 - Make an account. You will need your email address and a few details - don't forget your password! You may need to verify your email address by clicking a link that is sent to you. But luckily, you can use this account on your other devices too!

Step 3 - Get your meeting ID. Zoom sessions are called 'Meetings' and the Host (your tutor) will have one or two codes to give you. An eleven-digit 'Meeting ID' that will look a bit like this 000 - 0000 - 0000. You might also need a six-digit password - if so, your tutor will send you this too. You can also join by clicking a link sent to you via email or text that will open up the app for you and join the meeting automatically - magic!

Step 4 - Join your meeting. Open up the app, click the 'Join' button, and enter your eleven-digit Meeting ID. You might then be asked for a password, which you can enter here. You are then in your session!

Zoom on your computer

Step 1 - Download Zoom on your computer from here. You will need a computer with a camera and microphone so a laptop is best, if you have one, or your smartphone. If you don't have either, it should still work, but your tutor won't be able to see or hear you, which might not be ideal for your lesson. You can use the 'Chat' feature at the bottom of the window if you need to type anything to your tutor.

Step 2 - Make an account. You will need your email address and a few details - don't forget your password! You may need to verify your email address by clicking a link that is sent to you. But luckily, you can use this account on your other devices too!

You can also join by clicking a link sent to you via email that will open up the app for you and join the meeting automatically - magic!

Step 4 - Join your meeting. Open up Zoom, click the 'Join' button, and enter your eleven-digit Meeting ID. You might then be asked for a password, which you can enter here. You are then in your session!

Troubleshooting

I've entered the details but it says the host hasn't started the meeting yet, what do I do?

Just wait - you don't have to do anything. When the session starts your tutor will appear!

The video is freezing, or the audio won't work

This might be an internet connectivity problem or just a bug in the system. Leave the meeting, make sure your internet connection is strong (you might need to move closer to your router) and join your meeting again with the same details.

My tutor can't see or hear me!

Open up the 'settings' section of your phone and check that Zoom has permission to use the microphone and camera on your phone. You should be prompted to allow this when you join a call, so make sure to click 'Allow'.

My tutor can see and hear me, but doesn't need to!

Tap the screen and tap the 'Mute microphone' or 'Stop video' icons at the bottom of the screen. You will still be able to see and hear your tutor, and they will know you are there. You can unmute or start your video in the same way.
