My Vase of Flowers (4-7 yrs)

The very first blue and white pottery was made during the early Tang dynasty in China. We will be looking at these beautiful vases, studying the Chinese designs and painting our own in blue and white. We will do some colour mixing to create some wonderful new colours to use in our painting. You can take your lovely vase home to put some spring flowers in!

Changing Seasons

Changing Seasons with Georgia O’Keefe (5-11 yrs)

Tuesday 9th April, 09.30 - 15.30 (£64)

This wide-ranging class has a whole host of fun activities! In this all-day course we will be inspired by Georgia O’Keefe as we draw from a spring themed still life featuring greens, yellows and Easter elements. We’ll use pencils and watercolours, and make a basket to celebrate the turn of the seasons using upcycled boxes, collage, ribbons and flower motifs. We’ll also paint and decorate egg-shaped stones based on your spring drawings, and we’ll design a layered collaged cake and even create some stunning spring garlands. Come and join the fun!

Pop Up Spring

Pop Up Spring! (3-5 yrs)

Spring is going to pop up any time now, and we are going to make pop up flowers and buds using colourful card and paper sculpting! We could make tulips, daffodils, peonies... what flowers will you make? We will create some blossoms on the bough and paint a 3D vase to put them in so you can display your beautiful creations at home.

Butterflies

Butterflies and Bugs (3-5 yrs)

Wow – it really is A Bug’s Life out there right now! Now that all the beautiful butterflies and brilliant bugs are back, let’s celebrate them! Together we will make a caterpillar puppet to crawl around, and, of course, a fluttery butterfly which you can fly home. Maybe our caterpillars are hungry...

Perspective

Perspective Painting (4-7 yrs)

How does something look far away when really, it is right in front of our nose? We will learn about perspective and how artists use it when painting a landscape. We will look at the “vanishing point” - what could that be? - and we will use it in a landscape painting to give the appearance of something far away. Once you’ve learned these tricks, you can use them over and over again in your artwork!

Botanical

Botanical Illustration (with a close-up twist!) (8-14 yrs)

Do you love nature? Do you love drawing and creating? Then this workshop is for you! Participants will learn about botanical illustration, with a fun, abstract and surrealist approach. We’ll work from real natural objects, as well as photos, to create an inspiring gallery of prints at the end of our workshop, where the paintings might not always be what they seem! We’ll be getting up-close and personal with flowers, leaves, feathers, shells, and more... and you can bring your own, too! You’ll take home a set of beautiful pictures, prints, and bookmarks to keep or share as gifts. All learners must bring with them a fully charged device with which they can take photos. Please bring along your device and a charger (clip-on lenses will be provided).

Matisse

Matisse & Maps (3-5 yrs)

Now that the sun is out we can go exploring again! Have you seen what the earth looks like from above? Looking at maps and at the work of Victor Pasmore, Patrick Heron and Hundertwasser we will explore shapes you can see from up in the sky, looking down on the earth. We will draw with scissors and create our maps in the manner of Matisse.

Springtime Sprouting Heads

Springtime Sprouting Heads (6-12 yrs)

Welcome the coming of spring by making springtime sprouting grass heads, and watch their hair grow at home! The festival of Nowruz - New Day - is an ancient Persian festival celebrated on the spring equinox, and we will make grass-head characters as part of the table setting of the Haft-sin table, a tradition at the festival. We will make other items in collage for our table setting to celebrate the ancient Persian new year as well. What other six things will you choose for your table? Perhaps an apple for health? Some gold coins? Or a goldfish for good luck? Come along and find out!

Elmer

Elmer and The Fantastical Forest (3-5 yrs)

In the springtime all of the trees come back to life after a long winter. In Elmer the Elephant’s world, the trees are fantastical, and their leaves, bark and roots are whatever you want to imagine! In this workshop we will print all the bright colours on Elmer and create a beautiful springtime forest in which he can live.

Time For A Picnic

The sun is shining and picnics are here again. What do you like to eat on a picnic out in the woods? We’ll make a rug on which to sit, and some food to eat. We’ll need something to drink, and how will we get there? We’ll need to take a bike, a car, a bus or a plane. Let’s create our picnic!

David Hockney

David Hockney & Monoprinting (8-12 yrs)

Inspired by the brilliant David Hockney, we will create a mixed media picture of a spring scene, and then create a mono-painting print of our art works. By the end of the day you will have become more comfortable using both printing and mixed media as techniques, and you’ll come away with two brand new artworks – your original, and the monoprint! Which of these artistic mediums will you prefer? You’ll have to come along to find out!
