Creative Dance for Kids (5-6 yrs)
Monday 29th July, 13.00 - 15.00 (£24)
Come along to the Conservatoire for a creative contemporary dance class for young ones! Together we’ll move our bodies and have fun – exploring ideas, improvising, improving our co-ordination and expressing ourselves through movement. Twisting and turning, young dancers will work together to perform simple sequences and develop their own creativity – we’ll use all our energy and all our ideas! Using the activities and ideas we explore during the session, participants will work towards a short piece of movement which they can share informally with each other. If you love to move and want to explore a different approach to dance, this is the perfect short session for you – all levels and abilities welcome! Barre&Baby™ (Bumps to walking)
Wednesday 7th August 10.00 – 11.00 (£18 per session)
We are thrilled to have Barre&Baby return to the Conservatoire this summer! You are welcome to book on to one, some, or all of these sessions. Barre&Baby is a space for people to bring balance back into their lives using the beauty of dance and movement. From both a physical and mental point of view, dance can be strengthening and liberating. Every step of Barre&Baby has been designed to improve pregnancy and postnatal wellbeing. By involving everything from fingers to toes, we’re aiming to create space, improve circulation, strengthen the body and increase flexibility. Greater body awareness leads to better posture and alignment (crucial to avoiding aches and pains) and empowers mums to trust their body’s signals (so useful during pregnancy and birth!). By staying so close to you, your baby develops a sense of security and protection. Our soothing and relaxing music, played live, transmits positive feelings and supports your baby’s sensory development. The vestibular system (the part of the inner ear that helps coordinate movement with balance) is stimulated by your own movements as you dance, and your baby’s cardiac system grows stronger as a result of the workout. Barre&Baby can provide powerful benefits for the mind too. As you concentrate on our dance steps, you’ll find yourself entering a sort of meditation in movement, while activating the release of endorphins (the ‘feel-good’ hormones), boosting energy levels and uplifting your spirit. Finally, as the saying goes: “meeting someone while dancing means meeting them in their soul”. Many friendships are born on the dance f loor, and Barre&Baby classes are a wonderful way to make new friends. All levels are welcome, you do not have to have any dance experience to benefit from Barre&Baby. This class includes live music and will be accompanied by a musician. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, dance yoga socks or soft ballet shoes. Expectant mothers are welcome after 12 weeks of pregnancy. For postnatal mums, please make sure you have had your 6 week check before joining. Please bring a carrier/sling for the babywearing section of the session.

Dancing Amongst The Trees (5-8 yrs)

Come along to the Conservatoire for a morning of dance! Together we will explore imagined forest landscapes and woodland inhabitants... all through creative dance and movement! We will have a small sharing at the end of our session for friends and family. Come and join us to find out what moves await us in the forest!

Summertime Dance Day (7-12 yrs)

Do you love to dance! Then this workshop is for you! We will explore physical theatre techniques and many forms of dance to create our very own short performance. You will learn skills to help you choreograph your own brilliant dances, and you will learn techniques from around the world. We’ll even have a short sharing at the end of the day. Join us for a day of dance! Please note that this course takes place offsite at Quaker Halls, Blackheath.

Blackheath Youth Theatre Summer School (9-15 yrs)
Monday 12th - Friday 16th August, 10.30 - 16.30 (£320)
Blackheath Youth Theatre (BYT) is the principal theatre company at the Conservatoire, working with young actors aged 5 to 19 taking part across our 5 different groups. This 5-day summer course is perfect for anyone who is already a part of our Junior, Foundation, or Academy groups, and also a great way to get to know us if you’re interested in joining! Through working on voice and movement skills, exploring together as an ensemble and through text, students are given the opportunity to develop many aspects of their acting ability and technique in depth. This is a great way to keep up your acting skills over the long summer, and get to know other young actors in the area. There will be a performance on the final day of the course for friends and family. Please note that this course takes place offsite at a local venue in Blackheath, more information on booking.

Come along to this workshop to explore a dynamic fusion of ballet and jazz techniques and traditions, allowing dancers to explore a wide range of movement and expressions. Young dances will be able to showcase their creativity and be encouraged to explore and enjoy dance!

Drama Day: Making a Masterpiece (7-12 yrs)

Come along to the Conservatoire to stretch your theatrical muscles! Under the guidance of expert tutor Samara, participants will create a brand new piece of theatre together, inspired by their own ideas and interests, to be performed at the end of the day to friends and family. This f ive-star showstopper will be written, directed and performed by the group – so come along prepared for a world premiere! This exciting day is a chance to explore creativity, self-expression, build confidence and have lots of fun, all through the wonderful world of drama. Make A Musical! (8-14 yrs)
Monday 5th - Friday 9th August, 10.00 - 16.00 each day (£320)
Come and join three West End actors for a 5-day musical theatre workshop learning songs and scenes from top West End & Broadway shows. You will work together with Adam, Mary Jean, and Connor, who have performed in hits like Les Misérables and Heathers The Musical. You will improve your vocal and singing technique, learn new improvisation and acting techniques, and best of all you will put on your own short compilation musical at the end of the five days! Better start warming up now! This course mixes a huge dollop of fun in with all the hard work – but please come prepared to act/sing/dance your socks off and give it your all!
