Emma Houlahan

Emma is a vocalist, musician, and actor originally from Canada. Specializing in voice (musical theatre, pop, and classical), Emma also teaches piano and music theory.
Emma holds a BFA in Classical Music with a Specialization in Voice from York University (Toronto, Canada) and a MA in Musical Theatre from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Cardiff, Wales). She was the recipient of several scholarships during her studies including the Leverhulme Scholarship, Sterling Voice Award, Sterling Beckwith Award, and Orpheus Award. She has studied under renowned sopranos Stephanie Bogle, Norma Burrowes, and continues to train under one of the UK’s foremost vocal teachers, Tim Richards. Emma’s training in both classic and musical theatre gives her a deep understanding of music performance across multiple genres.
Emma has performed across Canada, the UK, and Germany in musicals, operetta, and concerts. Some career highlights include Aphrodite - Woven (Edinburgh Fringe), Penelope Pennywise - Urinetown (Richard Burton Company), and Principal Soloist at Saarburg International Music Festival (Saarburg, Germany). Emma is also an active performer in London’s cabaret scene, performing regularly with Baby Grand Collective and Wicked Women of the West End.
In addition to her musical theatre and classical performances, Emma is part of a folk/bluegrass duo, Bon Echo, which has toured Canada and the UK. Their debut EP was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and released in 2025.
Emma has previously worked as the Music Director and Program Coordinator for Ryerson University Youth & Community Programs (Toronto, Canada) and Music Director & Assistant Program Director for the Academy of Musical Theatre (Ottawa, Canada). She has taught 1-2-1, group lessons, and workshops for several years in both academic institutions and at her own private studio.
Emma’s teaching philosophy centres around creating a joyful learning environment while developing student’s skills to their fullest potential. She helps students work towards their individual goals through tailored lesson plans while building their musicianship, technique, and fostering their love of music. From absolute beginners to advanced students looking to develop their artistry, Emma provides a place for students to grow and express their creativity.
