Saturday Sinfonia (7-15 yrs, Grade 1+)

Saturdays 11.00 - 12.00

14th September - 14th December (13 weeks, £123.50) Playing a mix of traditional orchestral repertoire and more modern music (recent pieces have included Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter and Dvorak’s New World Symphony Theme) the Saturday Sinfonia is a confidence-building group for those developing their playing from Grade 1 onwards. There’s no audition for this group and there is a discount for students who have instrumental lessons at the Conservatoire. In addition to playing, the group do yoga warmups, and learn about tuning, chords and key signatures. Students will improve their aural skills, learn how to play together, understand the role of the conductor and even compose their own pieces for the Symphonia.

Junior Choir (6 - 8 yrs)

14th September - 14th December (13 weeks, £130) Our lively Junior Choir has a great time developing singing and musicianship skills and making new friends. We sing in unison and in harmony (with no sheet music-reading required), accompanied and a cappella. New members are always welcome!

Young Woodwind Ensemble (7-15 yrs, Grades 1-5)

Tuesdays 17.00 - 17.45

10th September - 10th December (13 weeks, £182) This is an opportunity to play your woodwind instrument in a fun and relaxed group setting each week, perfect for those who have completed our Play! Programme. Delve into the sounds of your instrument, including different tones and extended techniques. We will be playing some well known tunes and also creating our own pieces during the term. We will also incorporate games and exercises into the sessions to practice collaboration and group exploration. Please bring along your instrument(s) and let us know instrument and standard ahead of time. This course is open to woodwind players between grades 1 and 5, and Play! leavers. We would love you to join up if you play recorder, flute, clarinet, oboe or saxophone.

The Teen Piano Workshop (11-17 yrs, Grade 5+)

Sundays 14.30 - 17.00

15 Sept, 29 Sept, 13 Oct, 3 Nov, 17 Nov, 1 Dec, 15 Dec (£119 or £20 drop in) Do you love to play the piano? Then this course might be perfect for you! We hold these 2.5 hour long workshop twice a month, and is a great opportunity for students to play in an informal setting and receive some feedback from our expert tutor. Perhaps you are preparing for an exam or a competition? Come along to try out your pieces on others! This course is designed for those who are at an intermediate or an advanced level on the piano, approximately grade 5 and above. Gather some feedback and increase your confidence! Participants should bring a maximum of two pieces per student to each workshop. Please feel free to bring pieces that aren’t necessarily fully learnt e.g. one or two pages.

Join A Band

Join A Band (9-16 yrs, Grade 2+)

12th September - 12th December (13 weeks, £195) Are you a young drummer, pianist or singer? Ever dreamt of joining a band? Now is your time to shine! Come and learn to play your favourite pop songs as part of a band this half-term. Taught by practicing musicians, you will learn how to collaborate, jam and most importantly have fun with your music! Let’s rock! Perhaps we’ll sing the blues, or have a jam to ‘Yellow Submarine’… This course is open to young pianists, singers, and drummers/percussionists. We have limited space available for each instrument, so please get in touch ASAP to secure your spot. Participants should be grade 2 or above.

Blackheath Baroque Ensemble

Blackheath Baroque Youth Ensemble (7-14 yrs, Grade 6+)

Wednesdays 18.45 - 19.45

11th September - 4th December (12 weeks, £144) Our Baroque ensembles are an exceptional training ground for music from the Middle Ages to early 19th century. Young players of recorders, flutes, oboes, strings, piano/harpsichord, viola da gamba, theorbo, lute and archlute are welcome to join our thriving community of instrumentalists who share a love for making Early Music. The Conservatoire also has its own harpsichord, a French-style five-octave single manual. These ensembles offer students of Grade 6 and above the opportunity to play with a wide range of instruments in a chamber setting. We explore the orchestral repertoire written before 1800 in a historically informed way with mostly one or two instruments per part. The classes are friendly and welcoming, and music is played and enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. If you are a young musician interested in baroque music and you are grade 6 level or above, please get in touch – we welcome many instruments!
